The Granary: From Essential Storage to Museum Gift Shop

Granary

Originally constructed to store feed and grain for the farm's animals, the Granary has been repurposed as the museum's gift shop, blending historical architecture with modern functionality.

A notable feature of the Granary is the chute extending from the second floor, which was used to fill wheelbarrows with grain, facilitating efficient distribution to livestock.

To protect the valuable grain from rodents, the building was elevated on piers—a common practice aimed at deterring pests. However, despite these measures, determined rodents occasionally managed to infiltrate the storage. This challenge underscores the ingenuity and resourcefulness of farmers in safeguarding their harvests.

Visitors to the Waterloo Farm Museum can explore the Granary to gain insights into historical agricultural practices and appreciate the adaptive reuse of farm structures in preserving cultural heritage.
