Dewey School Museum
The Dewey School Museum, located near the Waterloo Farm Museum, offers visitors a glimpse into 19th-century rural education. The current structure, built in 1884, incorporated materials from the original schoolhouse and new bricks from the Beeman Brickyard following a floor collapse. It functioned as a modern school until 1956, when former pupils purchased it for $1 from Stockbridge Agricultural Schools. They formed a historical association, which was later incorporated into the Waterloo Area Historical Society's Museum in 1966. Today, the Dewey School Museum offers tours in spring and fall, providing insights into 19th-century rural education.
Visitors can explore the one-room schoolhouse, complete with original desks, chalkboards, and teaching tools, experiencing what it was like to be a student during a time when education was a rare and valued opportunity. The museum welcomes school tours and is open for tours during special events, offering an engaging educational experience for all ages.
